It gives me immense pleasure in introducing the socio-academic prospectus of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis Mahavidyalaya, a historically significant academic venture, established in 1965, at Baranagar, in North Suburban Calcutta, in an area with a large number of poverty stricken, determined refugee population, but the area with a historicity, where the seeds of Bengal Renaissance grew into trees of Indian Renaissance. The idea of an evening of Cossipure, Baranagar & Kamarhati, and Industrial hub, here was no Evening Commerce College in the vast area from Shyambazar to Barrackpore. At the beginning the college started functioning in the premises of Brahmananda Keshab Chandra College, which was established in 1956 as a Govt. sponsored Day College for Arts and Science, in the name of Doyen of Bengal Renaissance Movement . Brahmananda Keshab Chandra Sen, who along with Raja Rammohon Roy and Maharshi Debendra Nath Tagore, were the trinity who lead the social Religious-cum-Academic Brahmo Samaj Movement, based on a synthesis of upanishadic ideas which that of western scientific thoughts emerging from European-Renaissance, constituting the India-Renaissance.
